DMS 5.3-5644 Update 5 Released

by Ray Newbery in

Synology released DSM 5.3–5644 earlier today. The only change is to patch a security fix in the firewall filter policy. This addresses vulnerability CVE–2015–7547. The release notes do mention that performance of some models may be affected.

I applied the update to an DS212+ and a DS1511+ without any problems. While the DS212+ is on the list of models that may see a performance hit my use is so light that I haven’t noticed any change.

The update does restart network services but does not require a full reboot.

From the release notes:

Fixed Issues:
1. Updated Firewall filter policy to fix a security vulnerability caused by stack-based buffer overflow (CVE–2015–7547). This fix may impact read/write performance on the following models by no more than 15%, for which Synology is working on an enhancement in the future release.
